ROBERT Wiseman missed out on the title of Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year at this weekend’s awards ceremony in Monaco. From the field of 31 candidates who had won through to the final competition, Filipino businessman Tony Tan Caktiong, president of Jollibee Foods Corporation, emerged victorious. Caktiong’s business consisted of just two ice cream parlours when it was founded in the 1970s, but now employs 26,000 people in almost 1,000 outlets spread across seven countries, including the US and China. In the Philippines, Jollibee commands 65 per cent of the fast food market, competing successfully against established global brands. In 1993, it became the first food service company to be listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange. Last year it generated turnover of more than 470 million (?313m). Source The Scotsman.com |
