A: No.  Siam Pinoy ( although meant for the Filipino community in Thailand) is OPEN for any nationality. First, let's talk about what I think are the benefits SP members and visitors, regardless of nationality, get in the forum:

- the announcements ( dates, people to contact and other important information) of any events ( personal businesses and marketing jobs included) are found to be very beneficial.  PSTAT, for instance, was given permission by the SP webmaster to announce training dates of the "hot" Thai Culture training for teachers.

- ideas of forumers in almost all threads provide IDEAS for visitors and other forumers as well...

- and more!

This is the logic:  A farang comes to a Filipino abode...Filipino household welcomes the farang visitor ( such is our nature) ... Farang might have enjoyed the hospitality but may not see his visit beneficial to him ( this is natural)...but the culture remains: FILIPINOS ARE HOSPITABLE.

Mabuhay ang SP! Cheesy

Create links that highlight tourism opportunities in the Phiippines. Show them what they are missing by not going to the Philippines. Surfing in Siargao, Scuba diving in Davao, Trekking at places that are not inflitrated by the Pula, Eating fresh seafood not tainted by Red Tide, mountaing biking on our dirt roads (we have sooo much more dirt road in the Philippines than they do in Thailand). The Philippines should be a mountain bikers dream place.  I would like - for example be able to mountain bike around Samal Island in Davao.

If we show foreigners more of these - then the SP will be visited by more foreigners.

This forum should be beneficial TO FILIPINOS living in Thailand. This is all about - Filipinos Expats Community in Thailand. It should be beneficial also to foreigners but it would be difficult since the discussion is mostly for Filipinos. We can cater this forum to foreigners but how can it be beneficial for them? At what aspects we can entice foreigners to join here?  Huh?

Agree po...cguro di lang hometown natin kung hindi kahit sa isang lugar na napuntahan na natin before that may not be too popular but is worth visiting and will not be dangerous for Foreigners in terms of overall security tapos accessible din..in a way we are helping the community in those places enhance their livelihood through increase in visitor's traffic.

When my farang colleagues first started talking about going to the Philippines, swear to God, kinabahan ako, sabay dasal na "sana hwag silang marip off, and hwag silang madismaya sa lack of infrastructure sa Pinas, o kawalan ng mga travel conveniences we are all spoiled of in Thailand".

Was I ecstatic when a few of them came back, singing praises about the whale sharks in Donsol, albeit their being unimpressed about the travelling around Philippines! So the next year after that, a few more were convinced Philippines was not too bad a place to visit after all, despite it being so pricey, and off they went to swim with the whale sharks again.

I have to confess, we haven't gone much around Philippines ( mas alam ko pa ang Thailand, yay!). But I hope anybody out there who knows of a great place to send my farang colleagues to next time around, to please write an article about it, to be published here in SP.

Thanks in advance, Franz! ('have not forgotten about that meeting with Four Seasons; people just been very busy. Will follow up.)

cge po...di ako Writer pero will try to send some interesting stories from the places i've visited to hopefully encourage Farangs and Filipinos alike to travel to the Philippines...it's still worth our every hard earned penny.

Madam H, no problem. Actually I was able to meet Ken of Hotel Vista Pattaya whom I contacted through Master J today cos I went to Pattaya with some colleagues. We had inspection of the hotel and its facilities.

To SPers, this hotel is really awesome...Very Modern and unique ang hotel in every aspect from the facade, reception desk, restaurant, swimming pool and most especially the guestrooms... Location is perfect, just few meters away from Pattaya Beach Road. Though nasa soft opening stage pa lang ang Hotel sa ngayon, the facilities are basically complete. Those who are planning to go to Pattaya sometime soon, try this hotel. It's really worth it. I think the website is posted somewhere in the Announcement section of SP so just check it out. Have not tried the food so I cannot comment about the food. As for the service, I think the staff are courteous and prompt.

I think it should be beneficial to all nationalities but as a Filipino we should prioritize our own as the websites suggest "Siampinoy" Filipino ExpatsCommunity in Thailand.

In my opinion it doesnt matter if its Pinoy or Farang they should all be welcome and get warm accomodation here in SP, but as a community of Pinoy in Thailand then we should prioritize our very own kababayan. Like what Master J doing, promoting the hotel of the Filipina in Pattaya. IN that way we can raise our nationality not only here in Thailand but thru out the world.

And one thing people like about the owner is that she is very humble not the type na naging successful dahil siniraan niya ang ibang tao. Plus, she provided jobs to several Kababayans here in Thailand. Yan po daw ang totoong tulong sabi ng mga elders namin dito sa Thailand. Words of wisdom ba Smiley

Latest update: An International and Prestigious Award giving body will hold their awarding ceremony sa Hotel Vista this coming December. Gary Valenciano is one of the recepients of the award. Such an event highlights some of the Philippines best. Wouldn't you be proud to promote it? Naks!!! Cheesy

Should Siam Pinoy promote ALL that is Filipino, for the simple reason that he/she/it is Filipino?

I believe it was Ms Demi Noor who started the question, "should we police our own ranks"?

In relation to that question, and of more relevance to us in SP, perhaps, is this question...

Siam Pinoy, over the years, has become more than just a website to many of us. To many, it has become a home... as such, privileges have been handed out to those who deserve them. And as SP grows both in numbers and in reputation, there comes with it a certain amount of responsibility and accountability. Many have come and continue to use SP as a source of information, and even advice.

At the end of the day, here's the deal... many have tried to use SP to promote their own personal agenda, may they be of personal or business nature. And they will continue to do so... perhaps because of greed, or some people just never understand what SP is all about.

But, also part of this reality, is the many men and women who have come to love SP as a family, and thus, extend such love in terms of support, valuable information, a bond of trust, and unquestionable loyalty for all that SP is and stands for.

To those of you who form part of this special group of people, we can never thank you enough for being part of SP. It is your presence, that fuels our drive to make SP even better. It is also you, who are the reasons why despite having our own lives to live, careers to develop, kids to look after, we continue to make SP among our list of priorities.

We also take this opportunity to thank all those who make up the "silent" circle of strength of SP. You know who you are; you've been there when it all began, you were there when we were thinking about ways to reach more Pinoys in Thailand, and you are still here sharing a laugh with us in the forum, giving us valuable advice when it is most needed, and guiding others who have misconceptions about SP in the right path.

In SP, we each have a role to play for each one forms a valuable fabric of this whole community. We can disagree with each other with such passion in the forum that sometimes people on the outside think we are just about ready to go after each other's throat when we see each other in person. But what is great about us is that we can disagree with one another, yet remain respectful of each other's person and each other's principles.

And so my answer to this question is... SP will always have to be wary of who we promote, or who we support. And it's not always a 100% hit, but we sure extend ourselves to try to hit the mark most times. We apologize if there are certain sentiments we can not agree with on this account, but hopefully, in the long run, everyone will see the wisdom behind decisions we make here.

Great day to you, Siam Pinoy!

I joined this board to meet Filipinos

We share a lot of the same concerns - far away from our homes, visa and immigration issues, as well as the need to find relationships and social life.

All of us English speaking foreigners here in Thailand are a community too!

Plus, Filipino people are the most warmhearted and welcoming people in the world  Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

Maraming forums sa net. From the title of the webpage itself, it should be primarily geared to pinoys .....we need an outlet to express the "Pinoyness" of each Filipino and be the place of refuge when culture shock starts to invade us, wants to be confident to ask an advise, or loneliness grips us.

Nevertheless, this can benefit non-pinoys if one wants to know how a pinoy see, hear, speak, touch, and feels And of course, to broaden the boundaries of friendship.
