This notice was emailed to me by a concerned Filipino and shared here so that we may be aware and not fall victim to this. For information purpose only.
BEWARE OF FRAUDULENT E-TICKETS
There are many reasons why we fly these days: either for work, for holidays or for business. Fortunately, travelling by plane is more affordable thus, many can explore new places and opportunities while enjoying the experience.
Yet, still, there are set backs that each traveller must be carefully aware of. Both first-time and veteran flyers must always be cautious of fraudulent e-tickets. Here are some guidelines for all to know and share!
What are fraudulent e-tickets?
Fraudulent e-tickets are illegally purchased e-tickets using a valid credit card. An e-ticket and credit card fraudster commits a crime by deliberately deceiving someone by selling illegal e-tickets to individual/s and uses someone else's credit card.
A passenger will receive a confirmed booking number for sure. However, these transactions can only be completed when the credit card holder and owner acknowledges the transaction done, signs and pays for it ( either the individual or company). If the real credit card owner and holder cancels or rejects a transaction, then, in this case, the e-ticket will become invalid as there is no confirmed payment. Often until the day before the flight itself, when a passenger calls the airline about the e-ticket, the call center staff can say that the e-ticket’s booking and payment are confirmed.
What happens when an e-ticket becomes invalid?
A passenger cannot fly and must buy a new e-ticket if they want to travel that day at the cost quoted by the airline. Imagine the hassle, the stress and all the additional cost for you and those travelling with you! The cost will be based from the confirmed booking number that remains valid. Remember, the check-in counter staff at the Suvarnabhum airport or any airport worldwide will first verify the e-ticket's status and validity.
When can a credit card payment be honoured?
Transactions are only honoured when the real credit card owner is a passenger him/herself. If he/she bought for a group, then she/he must be present at the airport or provide the necessary credit card details. In case, credit card information have been forgotten at home, airlines such as AirAsia can refund the cost of your on-spot purchased e-ticket/s.( Always ask for possible reimbursements from the airlines you are flying with.)
Is this problem real and happening now?
Yes, it is a pity that it happens all the time. There are many unofficial and unreported incidents that have victimized our fellow Filipinos in Thailand alone. If your "e-ticket provider" cannot provide credit card details normally requested at the check-in-counters at the airport, then do not buy from that source! Think thrice or even ten times before being tempted on the offer of cheaper e-tickets without guarantees.
Many have been duped, stranded, spent sleepless nights somewhere and paid thrice of their e-ticket’s original costs for the newly issued e-ticket. What else can one really do when stuck with such a dilemma at the airport, isn’t it? There are no assurances that the "e-ticket provider" will reimburse or cover your expenses. Avoid such pitiful situations in the first place.
What should I do if I have a similar problem?
Ideally, officially inform the Philippine Embassy- Bangkok at least. Thus they can be aware of fraudulent activities and related persons. The Filipino and expatriate communities can sincerely help each other logically and more efficiently this way regarding this grave concern.

How come I was able to buy E-Ticket for a friend without presenting myself @ the airport? hmmm.. perhaps selected airlines only??

It is true there are a lot of fly by night Travel Agencies here or anywhere in the world. That is why it is always best that you purchase your air tickets or travel arrangement from trusted Travel companies (maybe a well-known, long established travel company with very good reputation) so you are assured what you purchased is valid. Another alternative is to purchase it directly with the airlines.
I heard of many stories wherein guests' supposed holiday became a nightmare because when they are about to leave for their next destination, there is no booking made by the agent they buy the package from and at that point, the agent cannot be contacted at all.
As for the purchase of tickets, let me give you insight on this as our company is into travel business. We do accept flight bookings even if the one paying is not part of the traveling party. For such cases, we require either payment by bank transfer or cash payment directly to our office cos its very risky to accept bookings if passenger is not part of the traveling party especially since Airline ticket cost very high but the profit margin is so small that one fraudulent booking is too costly for the travel company or airline to absorb. There are so many fraudulent purchases Online nowadays.. In our company, we even have one staff checking the authenticity of credit card information provided online to avoid losses due to fraudulent transactions.
Last tip, even if you have the e-ticket sent to you-- double check with the airline directly (through their Hotline Numbers) at least 72 hours before your departure date for 2 reasons 1.) To know that the e-ticket sent to you is valid or not 2.) There are instances wherein flight schedule changes. If you call the airline to reconfirm, they can advise you if the same flight details in your e-ticket is the updated one or not.

Hi Thanks for posting this very informative article. Some people can just think of the unthinkable for a few bucks so it's better to be INFORMED always. Then of course, those victimized just wants to get over it and move on with their lives right? 1) You can buy e-tickets for your parents, friends,etc. using a valid credit card. It can be yours or someone else's but if it belongs to someone then they must know it. Stolen credit cards can easily be used these days. 2) We don't need to go to the airport too as long you or those whom you bought e-tickets for can present credit card details ( photocopy only ) at the check-in counter so they can double-check what's shown on their computer screens. Buying online makes our lives easy, less hassle... just make sure the credit card details used are verifiable.

Oh and yes! How I wish Filipinos can come forward to the embassy even for just an official complaint! ( I wish too that official complaints can be done free...another 1,250 THB yata kasi). Then the embassy can jot down the details of those persons.
We can report these "e-eticket providers" to the airlines also afterwards. Airlines would appreciate that as they have to protect their own customers and businesses from fraudsters.
There's nothing to be ashamed of but it's understandable that the experience itself was traumatic enough and we don't want to prolong the stress, the burden and headache. It's just sad to hear another same sorry story after awhile.

isa din po sa kaibigan ko ang nabiktima ng ganitong racket. twice sya nabigyan ng confirmation ticket. puro walang pondo credit cards na ginamit buti na lang na ishare ko agad sa isa ko pang friend na may tatlong pasahero na kinuha nya rin sa the same agent. nung na verify nila sa airline... ala pang bayad yung fare nila. even they have the confirmation number.  nangyari ito just a few days ago. ingat na lang.. |

hello again to all, just a quick update. things have been settled re my friend's case so I have decided to delete my former elaborated post. Just to be fair, until both sides of the story are heard and a fair negotiation has been settled upon, then the issue is cleared. The 'e-ticket provider' remained true to his word after all the hassles and misunderstandings. For this Filipino: Thank you for listening, for understanding and for doing something. You are a man of honor because it is so easy to run, be angry and blame victims for their "innocence or naivity" like many others.Online forums maybe just the best venue for others who cannot speak or fight for their own rights and causes....for abnormal and seemingly simple yet complicated situations like this.... Friendships have been well-tested in this case. So mga friends, happy na kami!  sana maayos din yung sa isang nagpost re getting unpaid tickets with confirmed bookings from the same agent (sometimes even legitimate businesses can just be a front ...it is so easy to register a company anyway and mislead people still) ....so be very careful and report to the embassy if all else fails! That's true! Just think of this....... If that's the agent's real credit card how come that for the second time they issued a confirmed e-ticket but they didnt know that the card has no fund.  That proves that they are using a credit card which is not theirs. |

yes, I agree. fraud is fraud...and any settlement doesn't suffice in any case especially when it can happen again. as far as I know, my friend's "e-ticket provider" encountered problems himself regarding this matter with a supposedly legitimate firm/ venture partner. It is a very complex situation and for my friend's sake, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, in this case. I remain on guard. We cannot control other people's actions and decisions yet, I hope by sharing the story, we can learn from mistakes of others. I have long learned a similar lesson and so since then, I learne how to choose my "hardships and battles" in life. If it spells unnecessary trouble...whatever it is, quickly walk away, it's not worth it. |

Heres some list of spamming..
Lottery winning, Bank account benificiary, Job opportunity w/ cash bond, Green Card holder and etc...
Fishing software can also get your business info and all your details about you identity...
be safe by knowing and confirming your transaction all the time...
don't use your or log your credit card on some untrusted websites or some proxy server internet connection...
You didn't bought a ticket so you didn't won...

With regards to the fake tickets, these unscrupulous people sell fake CEBU PACIFIC tickets.

January 21, 2009 GMT +08  Hi! I'm just a new member to this site. I've recently received a similar message in my email [I've noticed the winning (lucky) numbers are exactly the same]. The only difference is that the message was presented in a very professional manner. It was sent to me by a certain mrs. tessy thomson and used the name of Mr. Raff Donahole as a fiduciary agent. Such message is quite doubtful, thus I acted to verify the winning message by sending a message to Mr. raff. He replied confirming that I won, however, he is requesting me to send certain information. of course, I only provided the information which I think will not put my identity in grave danger. Another message from said person was sent to me informing me that I need to contact a bank (ROYAL IRELAND AND FINANCE BANK) for the transfer of my "winnings". But i never made further reply because it requires that I provide my email password. I just made a few research about the UK online lottery and the Royal Ireland and Finance Bank. The bank exists but I've never found anything that relates it to UK lottery. I've also reviewed the policy of the UK online lottery. It was also by virtue of that research that I was directed to this site. To whoever receives a similar message, please be careful.
