electronic reading vs. traditional typographic reading?

share naman kayo ideas nyo about this topic... kayo ba ay electronic dependent in reading or still prefer the old style of reading... the book...

I'm the traditional type of reader. Minsan nga, even when I can browse a text on the web, I still prefer to print pages off because I feel I can actually absorb more when I do so.

I am concerned with the quality of the language nowadays, with the advent of technology. Even on emails and sometimes even when I send text messages on my phone, I still prefer to spell everything out. Perhaps it's the language teacher in me who just can't stand it when things don't seem "
right".

i go for both kasi both media have their pros and cons:

electronic reading for me is a toy and also a source of information if not knowledge. i don't mind scrolling, i use the same energy to turn a page on a book, so I can't complain. i can access a variety of material instantly and on a whim. you can't do that with hardcopy books. obviously the downside is you have to make bitbit your laptop [mine is old and heavy at almost 2 kg, ugh!] and gotta have internet access, otherwise i have to download docus, whole e-books or even webpages. thankfully maraming free hotspots dito sa Thailand, yay! [which is why i detest suvarnabuhmi airport, zero access unless i walk all the way to starbucks and buy an access card, or use one of 2 very expensive cyber corners; a third cyberzone is in the VIP lounge of Thai Airways, which I may never even get to see at all]. i have tried using a PDA, don't like staring at a small screen one bit, no thrill. also kelangan ingatan ang laptop against accidents and theft! lastly, most reading material, especially blogs, have comments section where you can easily and instantly communicate with a writer/author.

hardcopies are good standbys, highly portable, and virtually indesctructible if you accidentally drop it on the floor. i like the feel of paper and the crisp sound it makes as i turn a page. you are in your own world when you read books! but they are limited in that when you're done, you're done. also they take up too much space, but then again some people like the look and feel of a full-stocked library. also did you know that when Betamax tapes were first being invented, the lead engineer said he wanted something that was as small and lightweight as a paperback novel? his ideal was the dimension of a normal book so that people would want to carry these around!
