I am starting this thread to help everyone enrich their English vocabulary with words uncommonly used in our daily conversation but could be useful to us one of these days.
Ok here is my first word:
COLLOQUY- Noun. (plural -quies) pronounced as [kol-uh-kwee]
1. A conversational exchange; dialogue. 2. A conference.

malfeasance \mal-FEE-zuhn(t)s\, noun:
Wrongdoing, misconduct, or misbehavior, especially by a public official.
But more often than not the same board members who were removed by the chancellor for malfeasance subsequently manage to get reelected in a political process that defies any form of accountability. -- Diane Ravitch and Joseph Viteritti, New Schools for a New Century
Cagney family conjecture was that Grandpop Nelson, with the temper of a dozen Furies, had likely committed some malfeasance in his native town forcing him to change his name when he left. -- John McCabe, Cagney
Malfeasance is derived from Old French malfaisant, present participle of malfaire, "to do evil," from Latin malefacere, from male, "badly" + facere, "to do."

Learning English words this way will not help you much. WHY? Because we usually use words that are relevant to our work environment. So if you are working in the finance and business industry, you probably would not be using Engineering or medical Terms. Kaya nga each field has its own particular lingo. Why is this important? Importante ito kasi yun ang mga terms na madalas mong gagamitin. Anyway, para sa akin, ang pinaka mabuting teacher ng vocab ay ang pagbabasa ng libro, magazine and ibat-iba pang mga items (huwag lang komiks and tik-tik magazine). There is no point when you can say tht you have read enough books. But somewhere along the way, you will become ostentatiously intelligent (borrowed from someone else).

Then in case you are working in the finance and business industry or any industry for that matter, why not share your Industry terms so we could learn the jargon? Who knows we might encounter such terms in the future? Anyway, para sa akin, ang pinaka mabuting teacher ng vocab ay ang pagbabasa ng libro, magazine and ibat-iba pang mga items (huwag lang komiks and tik-tik magazine). I certainly agree with you- that is the reason why I love reading books because it entertains me and enrich my vocabulary as well. However, since we cannot publish a book here in the Siam Pinoy Online Community or any form of publication for that matter (due to space/bandwidth constraints) , wouldn't it be good to at least contribute something (no matter how small) to others? If I am to ask you now, how can you MDN contribute here in Siam Pinoy to Enrich the vocab of other members? Any suggestions?

But that's just it!! It would be a waste of time to do so. It is everyone's responsibility to learn the lingo of their profession. If they want to enrich their english, they must read more. BTW, there is a much better resource for building your vocab. It is called a dictionary. I also use an online dictionary and thesaurus. Just google Online dictionary and look for Merriam Webster. Works for me. This is what I called need-based learning. You learn what you need. It is much easier to retain the word's meaning this way. Learning English words this way will not help you much. WHY?
