finishing the race well for God's glory

« on: October 29, 2008, 02:08:39 PM »

Hi po, ako si mish. Would like to ask questions kasi po I'm planning to work in Bangkok. May offer na po from the same company I'm working with right now pero sa Bangkok po naka-base. Hope matulungan po ninyo ako so I won't make decisions out of my own knowledge lang.

1. Okay na po ba ang 25k na offer?
2. How much po ba pwede magastos sa rent ng matutuluyan kasama na rin po yung sa tubig/kuryente?

25K? baka pede inegotiate mo to include extra living allowance + visa/work permit expenses to your benefits...  yung 25K mo will still have to go through tax and corresponding deductions...  baka in the long run, you will realize na you are trying to sacrifice being away from your family when in fact you are earning almost the same amount if you were working back home...

my 2 satangs...

welcome to SP Philippines

Hi Mish...the 25K Baht (approx. 35,800 Pesos as per current conversion) may be more than what you are currently earning in the Philippines now but before you accept, you must consider these things first:

1.) 25K Baht may look bigger than your current Peso earning but you will be spending Baht here as well.
2.) You will have to pay the apartment rental + utilities-- for this you may have to allot 4-6K if you are renting a small studio type, non-aircon apartment. If with aircon then maybe allot 8-15K (of course the rental depends on the location of your apartment.)
3.) You will have to eat 3 square meals per day + snack (if you normally eat snack). A decent set meal (excluding drink) costs about Baht 30-60 and a bit more expensive if you will eat in fast foods like Mc Donalds, Burger King, KFC, etc.
4.) Tama po si Van Helsing, your salary will be subject to deductions though ang Income tax here I think is lower than in the Philippines.

Let our advise not discourage you in going to Bangkok but help you decide if you may need to re-negotiate with your employers for extra benefits/allowance or increase ng konti ang Salary offer. Some Pinoys here survive naman with similar salary.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if natuloy ka sa Bangkok and hope to see you logging in SP more often.

Forum Rocks

medyo mabagal magreply ang HR nila though isang organization lang kami. pero okay lang kasi mas magkakaroon ako ng time para mag-research at magisip na rin if this could be worth risking.

kung maki-negotiate po ako, how much do you think yung konti na pwedeng idagdag para makasurvive na po ako? salamat po ulit ha!

God bless!

Like I said, meron naman nakaka survive na mga Pinoys with the same salary level being offered to you but syempre kung tataasan ng company nyo eh di mas maganda kasi same Organization pa rin naman ibang office lang.

About the wifi, in my case I am paying almost 700 a month for my wifi. Sobrang bagal lalo pag weekend siguro kasi madami gumagamit.

Generally, living here in Bangkok is easy. Transportation is also easy. There are ample Buses (ordinary or Air conditioned), more taxis than in Manila and of course the reliable and very accessible BTS Sky Train and MRT subway.

Good luck on your career.

hi mish, actually yung green bangkok wifi is a free public wifi service provided by bangkok metropolitan administration (BMA).  depende rin sa place of residence mo kung covered sya nung project.  another thing is, medyo mabagal to compared to commercial subscriptions kasi this connection only runs in 64kbps per hotspot.  since this is publicly available, imagine a 64kbps connection being shared by say 10 or more people  Roll Eyes

some condos or apartments provide their own wifi service to their tenants at depende rin sa contract nyo kung separate billing sya or part of your rental.  kung separate billing sya, i would suggest kumuha ka na lang ng sarili mong subscription kasi yung ibibigay sa yo na wifi service ng condo is going to be shared by other tenants as well.  in my case, i get to avail of a promotion before where you get free phone line that comes with the 600thb/month adsl package.

And on top of all that,, Filipinos are supposed to have a minimum salary of 35K baht, and income tax with a minimum of 18K baht per year. So if they will be giving you 25 K salary and you are required an annual income tax of 18K,, Lugi ka,,, however despite all the Labor laws,, marami parin ang under paid na kagaya namin.

Hi Mish,

My name is Steve St. John. I've been working here in the kingdom for 5 years and i'm earning 15 thousand a month. I'm still here because 15 thousand is helping me survive. Food, electricity and water here is not that expensive. I read your article and 25 thousand is a very good offer if it's for me. Actually some of the Filipinos here are earnings less than 15 thousand a month and still they are happy. To make this story short. I think 25k is okay if you're single. Thats all thank you.

You're future friend,

Mish,

Make sure na ang offer nilang 25 k/month ay talagang 25 K. Marami na akong narinig na malaki ang offer, pero nung nag-upisa nang magtrabaho - they dropped the bombshell na mas maliit ang kanilang sasahurin. Hope this doesn't happen to you.

Since may track record ka na with this company, baka puedeng negotiate ang housing allowance, transportation, etc.

Regards,

That's a good question, Basa-Basa...

Where will you be working and what job will it be?
