Announcement from the Embassy:

Please ensure that your passports are machine-readable [may bar code na nakatatak]. The current batch of non-readable passports are good until 2010, after that we have to comply and change it. All other countries/airports/points of disembarcation have now switched their systems. The only problem you might encounter with you old "analog" passport is a slight delay in processing when you go to other countries.

Alin bang passport ang old analog? lahat ng green passport? at pano mo malalaman kung machine readable ang sayo? tumawag ako sa embassy sabi sakin okay lang naman gamitin ang green passport hangang maubos ang pages o mag lapse ang validation.

Green yung "old" system, maroon yung new system at dapat may barcode ito.
Direct quote from AFT-NRC president Arthur Elbinias:

Dear Kabayan,

May the New Year bring prosperity and blessings to you and your family!

The changing of the year also brings about concern for some to renew their Philippine Passports.
In this regard, the association would like to offer assistance to all our members in facilitating the renewal of their passports here in Chiang Mai. (We will also accommodate non-members )

....

The new machine readable passports will require at least 30-40 days processing and shipping time. So, we encourage
those holders of passports expiring within 2009 to renew earlier.

All existing non-machine readable passports can still be used up to their expiry dates even beyond 2010.

A directive from the International Civil Aeronautics Organization (ICAO) has advised all countries to change to machine readable passports by April 2010. So, if you plan to travel starting this year and beyond to other countries, to avoid inconvenience at the port of entries, you may change it now at your own discretion, other wise your passports are still valid until its expiry date.

....

Best regards.

So it is good until it expires? it can be used even beyond 2010 and not as others may say "good until 2010" only. it is valid until it expires or until all pages are used before expiration.

DFA: Not true green passports valid only until end 2009

abs-cbnNEWS. com | 02/05/2009 5:36 PM

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday announced that green
passports are valid until their expiration date.

“The Office of the Consular Affairs of the DFA wishes to inform the
international community to honor the validity of all machine-readable
ready passports (green passports) until its expiration date,” said DFA
spokesman Bayani Mangibin in a text message to abs-cbnNEWS. com.

Ambassador Mangibin made the clarification following an advisory allegedly
issued by the DFA’s travel agency section. The advisory is circulating
among overseas Filipinos.

In the advisory, it says that effective January 2010, green colored
passports will no longer be accepted.

It continued with a list of new requirements for the application and
renewal of the Philippine passports.

“All green passports are valid until their expiration date,” Mangibin said.

Just want to say, I'm still quite happy from my visit yesterday at our Embassy in Bkk. The service was efficient. Pero nang dumating ang maraming kababayan, medyo nag iba ang atmosphere. I suggest that the Consular Section needs to implement an electronic number system just like the other embassies. Through this, the Consular Officials have more time to sort it out and for visitors to be seated until their turn comes.

Also paalala sa mga mag-rerenew ng passport. Very strict ang requirements sa Passport Photo. Nagpakuha ulit ako sa Kodak shop in front of the Embassy (across the road). Para hindi sayang sa pambayad at sigurado, I suggest you do it in the Kodak shop.

Tama ka diyan. Much anticipated.  Para kasing short staffed sila so if they can adopt this process mas magiging customer oriented ang mga staff at less pressure. Cheers.

Try calling our embassy's hotline. Pray that the anorexic girl is not the one to answer your call. Baka makarinig ka ng "magbasa ka kasi ng announcement sa website' o kaya "hindi ka din makulit,eh."
