Hi,

My daughter and I will be visiting Thailand for a 4-day vacation this last week of May.  Can you suggest an affordable but nice and safe place to stay?  I'm bringing my daughter with me so as much as possible, I want a child friendly place to stay  Smiley

My daughter is sick and having trauma bcoz of family problem so I want her to enjoy this vacation.  We also want to look for her father (J.C. - initial) who just left us (i believe he's in Bangkok) last month without even saying goodbye to her daughter.

I've seen from sawadee.com - "Thong Ta Resort", it's much cheaper than other hotels and the pictures of the rooms are nice.  Is it a good place to stay?  Do you recommend it?  Kindly give me some suggestions on where to stay?

Thanks a lot!  Philippines

From the airport, you can ask around where to take a bus going to Khao San.  That is where very cheap budget accomodations abound from 200+ to 700+ baht. It is kinda cool to children as well because it is a common place for backpackers. I mean there are lots of tourists in the area where police protection is a must. However, Khao San boasts of great nightlife, so unless you decide to go bar hopping with your kid, it becomes a total experience....I am just saying...Cheers!  Beer

You can browse the internet for the updated infos of the following guesthouses along Khaosan area:
1. Orchid House
2. GreenHouse
3. Khaosan Palace Inn
4. Nat Guest House
5. Marcopolo
6. C.H.2

Plus, here is the list of budget hotels for your reference:
1. Manhattan Bangkok - www.hotelmanhattan.com
2. Ariston Hotel - www.aristonhotelbkk.com
3. Borarn House
4. Bangkok City Inn
5. Bangkok Center Hotel
6. Royal Hotel
7. Bangkok Palace Hotel - www.bangkokpalace.com

Thanks a lot!  Siguro pili ako dun ng malapit sa airport and yung affordable  Smiley

I have another question, yung mga food ba sa Thailand is puro maanghang  Huh? May isang tao kasi na nagdidiscourage sa kin na pumunta dyan, baka daw kasi walang makain yung daughter ko (she's 5 years old).  For 1 whole day kaya mga magkano yung magagastos sa food?

sorry po, first timer kami sa Thailand  Embarrassed

food is very cheap here in Bangkok though it varies depending on the location. most thai foods are spicy but not all. you can also enjoy different cuisine (like japanese foods) in a very affordable price. lot's of fast foods like KFC, McDo, Burger King, etc. to enjoy too.

you should not worry about foods, remember you will come here to have memorable time with your daughter.

Enjoy!!!!

Hello, here are a few comments:

1. Last week of May = school starts mid-May so please expect increased traffic in BKK

2. Affordable, nice, and safe = please indicate a bracket for you budget? Like many places, madami pong murang guest house dito pero bars ang mga katabi. Of course, the more you go into the business areas that are more safe, medyo mas mahal ang rates nila. Also it would be helpful to know important places you want to see. For example, you plan to visit the Philippine Embassy? That would be a helpful place to start your, er, "man hunt"...

3. Thong Ta Resort = be aware that photos in search sites are sometimes not what they seem. In fact I don't see it on my interactive map, try it po:

Bangkok Interactive Map
The advantage of using this map is you have an idea sa location ng hotel and not left wondering where in heck you are.

Recommendations - I'll go ahead anyway and recommend kahit di pa clear ang details mo:
1. Bangkok Christian Guesthouse
************ Soi 2 [between Sala Daeng and Convent Roads]
landmark: Sala Daeng BTS Station
directly behind Central Dep't Store, Saladeng
as in walking distance talaga
point of interest: Lumpini Park
[02] 233-2206 / reservations@bcgh.org

2. City Lodge
Sukhumvit Soi 9 or 19 <--- [I prefer 19]
Soi 9 landmark: Nana BTS Station
you can almost touch the hotel from the train platform!

Soi 19 landmark: Asoke BTS Station
walking distance from station, across Westin Grand Sukhumvit on soi 19
reservations: www.amari.com
reserving online is cheaper
point of interest: buy a day pass at BTS, ThB 120 only, and you can access all station points and explore half the city without ever going through the hassle of traffic!

3. Boonsiri Place
Please refer to the interactive map
It's new, BUT it's in a less sosyal environment, as in people on the street sell 2nd hand stuff like you wouldn't believe
Kung pupunta ka na rin lang sa Khao San Road, this place will do as well
Was alone here my first day in Bangkok and with common sense and caution, it should be safe for you and child
point of interest:
walking distance to the world-renowned Grande Palace & Reclining Buddha + historical Democracy Monument
entrance approx ThB 300/pax, wear tops with sleeves and no short shorts, adults and children alike
Bring umbrella or hat, wear sunscreen

Learn some useful Thai phrases before coming here.

Basic food like Khao Pat (Thai fried rice variety) only costs at least 25 Baht, that is around 35 Pesos...but it will also depend on the way you like it prepared...

Not all food are spicy but generally, yes, they are....So, again, it boils down to the way you like it prepared...

If you don't like your food spicy, just say..."Mai Pet"...Remember to say this all the time...he he he  Grin Grin Grin

Enjoy your trip!!!

Dati yatang marshland yan. It's not worth na magtipid ka sa taxi or bus para malapit sa airport hotel, tapos magtataxi or bus rin naman back and forth to the city.

Ang budget ko sana is around PHP1,000 to PHP1,500 per day, meron naman siguro ok na room with that rates.

Wish us luck and if there's more info that I should know, pakipost na lang po  Smiley

may I ask how do you plan to look for your husband? (kasi mahirap maghanap sa taong ayaw magpahanap) I just wish na nagbabasa siya ng SiamPinoy at alam nya na pupunta kayo.

but in my own point of view, your post in this forum may or may not help you. one, kung mababasa nya dito sana tawagan ka na, i hope alam nya contacts mo. on the other hand, kung ayaw nya magpakita at nabasa nya dito baka lalo magtago lalo na na-post mo na pupunta kayo dito....................... again personal view ko lang ito

wish you goodluck

Don't do this alone, seek government help. Makakatulong na rin siguro ang media. What about yung pamilya ng tatay?

Dahil isipin mo what will you do kung magkita nga kayo at papaano mo pipilitin na bigyan kayo ng suporta?

have you tried to consult child care professional about condition of your daughter...... better be watchful of her situation and there's nothing wrong seeking help. i have no idea how is she affected but here's some infos about Child Traumatic Stress. hope this can help you in any way.

Children who suffer from child traumatic stress are those children who have been exposed to one or more traumas over the course of their lives and develop reactions that persist and affect their daily lives after the traumatic events have ended. Traumatic reactions can include a variety of responses, including intense and ongoing emotional upset, depressive symptoms, anxiety, behavioral changes, difficulties with attention, academic difficulties, nightmares, physical symptoms such as difficulty sleeping and eating, and aches and pains, among others. Children who suffer from traumatic stress often have these types of symptoms when reminded in some way of the traumatic event.

 Sad

Most of the symptoms are present in her.  She’s having difficulty in sleeping for 1 month now since her Papa leaves us.  Most of the time, she woke me up around 1 to 2 am, she’s still awake, just to ask me when will her Papa comes back.  Actually, we’ve told her that her Papa is in Singapore for a training, but you know she’s an intelligent girl, she asked me why is he not calling her or why are we not calling him.  She knows when her Papa is in training, we still have communication with him.  She’s also having bad dreams most of the time.  I also heard her prayers before going to sleep that she wishes her Papa to return home now.

When she’s doing something like her artwork online, she always told me to send it to her Papa.  When my phone rings, she asked me to answer it immediately, “baka si Papa yan gusto akong kausapin”, she said.  When I’m in front of my computer, she always asked to look at her Papa’s pictures.  My daughter always wants to go out of the house and play, but now she doesn’t even want to attend birthday party of her friend.

Physically, (I’m not sure if it’s just a coincidence) sometimes she’s experiencing difficulty in hearing using her right ear.  She’s also experiencing pain on her left foot at nights.  I have already consulted doctors for her ear and left foot.

Well, I hope this vacation will become enjoyable for her.  And if we are fortunate enough, I hope my husband/her Papa, will have the heart to show himself to his daughter.  Actually, the three of us have plans of going to Bohol supposedly this last week of May.  And my daughter is really disappointed when I told her that we are not going because her Papa is not here.

Hope that we will be able to come to Thailand and enjoy our stay there!  Wish us luck and blessings!

Thank you so much again  Philippines
