it depends on your lifestyle. living a simple life, that would be enough.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow ~~ Melody Beattie ~~

RB Mariposa I agree with RB. That's more than enough esp. you are single. Unless your living standards are high OR having kids who would go to a Biligual/Inter. School.

well if you're smart and inspired and loyal, it is possible to live your cost less than 15000bhat. be a smart consumer, buy only what you need, many markets here that are cheap and have good quality. be inspired enough to delete your desires for excess food, unnecessary materials things. walk in the parks rather than taking a long vacation. read a book. sleep well instead of going out late at nite. be loyal to your wallet. save your money! just an idea. peace wallet!

Thanks I discovered this site. I didn't expect to get more than 1 reply. Thanks to everyone.
My prospect company is located in Pattaya.
I guess with Siampinoy around, living in Thailand will be less difficult.

Hello Avril, This is little if you have 2 babies and 4 other people eating monthly. You also add the visa fees (of any kind). About 2 times that salary is a bit comfortable and about 4 times of it is a somewhat comfortable. However, if you come to work everyday and come home in the evening, doing it repeatedly for many years, as if you are in a rat race of active income, it is no real comfort at all. If you really want to live comfortably, may I suggest to earn a passive income of about half a million a month. You may just define the kind of comfort you want, whether for yourself only or for your family.

To sustain a simple lifestyle, that's more than enough. However, if you have a penchant for shopping (like me), that's just enough. Hehehehe.

Thank you all. Though I really wanted to work in Thailand, I do have second thoughts as there are no benefits involved (no insurance, health insurance, accomodation, allowances, bonus etc.) Anyone here who has any idea regarding: 1.) Taxes usually deducted from the basic salary. Estimate/Ranges will do. 2.) If I'll get my personal health card there, around how much will this cost me per month? This is important for me in case of emergencies especially in a foreign land. 3.) Accomodation - can I get one with just 3k budget a month? I'm okay even if not airconditioned.
Your responses on the above will be greatly appreciated. I will calculate my net pay based on the information you will give, considering also the list given by isDA.
Advice/Suggestions/Comments are welcome.
Again, thanks for the help!

1. Tax, I've been told starts at 6%. There's a ceiling of 30%. 2. Good thinking about insurances - it's an absolute must! Health insurance is from 20, 000 to 30,000 per year. This should already get you into the best hospitals in Bangkok; with at least 2,000 baht coverage per time for an OPD case. Life insurance with a Critical illness option can be had from as low as 1,000 baht per month (our agent has a monthly payment option, which really helps when it comes to peace of mind and 'peace in the wallet' at the same time). 3. Accomodation will depend on where you live, but 3,000 baht should be a good enough amount to live in a decent place, but maybe not in the center of the city itself. On the outskirts of Bangkok, you can get houses with 2 rooms that is as low as 6,000 baht. But i wouldn't encourage you to rent a non-aircon place. Come summer time (March-April), temperature rises up to more than 35degrees centigrade. I don't have any background about your work life at present, but here's what I can say about Bangkok: a starting salary of 40,000baht+ a month is a hell of a starting salary. If you are open to a new experience, you might want to try it out for a year. If you are single, which I'm guessing you are, and you are not one to spend all your money on shopping and/or night outs, you'll be just fine. After a year and you wanted to stay longer, you can negotiate for better benefits as long as you have done well in your job. Even better, you can probably find a better job in another company, since you already have experience working in Thailand by then. That's all you need really to open yourself up to other opportunities. Living in Thailand takes a lot of adjustment in terms of culture, especially if you are going to work amidst mostly the locals. But many of our forumers work amongst Thais only, and they've been here for years. Thailand, for most Filipinos, is a more convenient place to live in than the Philippines. Cost of living and cost of traveling around is lower, fruits are fresh and food is easy to come by (just about every street corner has a food stall/restaurant/eatery).
