If you're still in need of a forum that promotes professional development, Thailand Educators Network provides one on the tenth of each month at the Roadhouse BBQ (5 minute walk from BTS Sala Daeng on Suriwong Road).  Drinks and food are included in the price of admission and it's a terrific way to make connections with fellow teachers in Bangkok.  Hope you're still interested!

This is good idea, and the one on the other thread about collaboration.  Members of FECT and FBFT (Federation of Boholanos and Friends in Thailand) are meeting near your place, at St. Theresea INTI College-Surawong Campus, 34th Floor Sukulthai-Surawong Tower, Surawong Road,  at 5:30PM on May 10, 2008.  We could meet there or at your place.  Let's see what the other members of the FECT will say when they wake up and read this post.  I will tell them about this positive move.

Usually, they charge around 2,000baht for teachers whose schools are EARCOS members. If not, they charge a few hundred baht more. You have to book early if you want to attend these weekend workshops. They fill up pretty quickly, especially once international school regular classes resume in August.

What's great about these workshops is, you get a chance to discuss education issues with fellow educators from around the East Asia Pacific region. The speakers are always engaging and world class. Organization of the workshops is super, and food included.

For a more complete list of the workshops throughout the school year, visit www.earcos.org.

Also check out the following organizations' websites from time to time for updates. At this time, however, they haven't put up their program yet for 2008-2009.

Bangkok Teachers Network - last school year's conference was held at Ruamrudee International School on
November 17. Registration fee was only 800 baht, inclusive of lunch and snacks during breaks.

Thai-TESOL - 2008's conference was held in Khon Kaen last January

ISAT (International Schools Association of Thailand) - this year's seminar was in Bangkok on Saturday 2
February 2008 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Topic: "Understanding by Design".

For those teachers who wish to avail of the very valuable interchange of ideas in these seminars/conferences, plan early; draft proposals to your schools so they sponsor groups of teachers to join these professionla development activities. After all, better teachers mean better students!

See you at the conferences/seminars.  Smiley

Wow naman, Madame H! We are on the same page parati, habang binabasa ko itong forum, I also have the EARCOS page up in another browser. Was surprised when I read your post. Too bad none of the weekend workshops have anything to do with my subject area, kahit pilitin ko. hehehe. Looking forward to EARCOS 2009, sana magkita tayo. gimik ulit!

The Thai-TESOL one is also worth going to. Iba naman kasi ang crowd. Different perspective from those we usually encounter among IS crowds.

Guys, let's do our best to be there at the Bangkok 10 one this coming June 10th. Beeps, andito ka na nun, di ba?

I think they start around 6:30. Will confirm with Terry, then will let everyone know. 'Wonder if Yllorco and Noods are free then also... 'looks like a good night to get reacquainted with the rest of the gang.

I am very interested to attend the seminar by Dr. Stephen Krashen. I am one of the fans of his astounding theories on language acquisition and language teaching.

The thing here is it would cause conflict with my sched in MaEd. I hope somebody could share something here after the seminar.

Just thinking out loud here...since your MA is on education, why not propose that you be allowed to attend this one? Perhaps, it would sit well with them if you volunteered to echo the seminar in class after...  Wink

But I won't mind publishing something here afterwards...
