Attention: Mga Guro

In the near future, ministry of education will be requiring non-education majors, to have at least 15 units of education... ABAC is offering certificate in teaching 30 credits for two semester with a shocking fee of 184,000 baht.....

nothing can be compared to a real classroom interaction... well, if we don't have other choice then why not go for an nonline course? For me it's good but it's impractical. Online course? Is it different from reading books, magazines and exploring the web for professional development?

I really have no confidence to MOE esp. in dealing with language education issues and concerns.

Aren't they aware that graduates of AB- English are able to teach ESL? They were not trained to teach ESL.

Students who were "trained" in Rajabhats to teach ESL and do their "practice teaching" in public schools should be evaluated. Imagine, a practice teacher in a public school who merely helps the critic teacher MARK papers until the end of the semester without ACTUAL teaching!!

How will they expect CHANGE if they couldn't even clean their own backyard?

And now, requiring foreign language teachers to take educational courses??? It's all about THE MONEY!!

What happened to the required TEFL CERTIFICATES?? Isn't that good enough??

How can they require an EXCELLENT and PERFORMING "native speaker"  who doesn't have any degrees to take EDUCATION units??

Is the MOE aware how many foreign ESL teachers that are degree holders? non-degree holders? certificate holders? volunteers?

And then WHAT do these EDUCATION UNITS comprise of?? Most probably it is something that was not  well-thought of.

And will it really improve the over-all English proficiency of Thai students?

Are they aware that there are more  THAI "ESL" teachers than foreign teachers especially in the provinces?

Are they aware that there are many Thai "ESL" teachers who don't even use one word of English in their "ESL" classes?

I don't know what the people at MOE are thinking but sometimes after reading these kinds of measures, I just sit down, give my opinion, laugh and then smile!

 Grin

Wow, Erick! These observations are amazing! The one thing that really got me is the one about somebody supposed to be doing practice teaching, but just really helping prof mark papers! Wowowee! Cheesy

Actually, this requirement is already in full effect in most international schools in Thailand. I was already a "victim" so to speak of such policy. Ang matindi niyan is, even though I already had my Master's in English Language Teaching years back, I had to take the certificate degree in Education because my Bachelor's is in Nursing.

So, I suggest to those who plan on staying here in Thailand for a long time, follow the advice of Yllorco and get into an education course now if you don't have it yet. Don't wait till your school give you a deadline.

This sounds good to me. More schools will be hiring Filipino teachers who are holder of education degree.

Jordge, you stand a chance in finding a teaching job. Welcome to Thailand!
