Sawadee!!! This is the first thing you will here when you board the Thai Airways flight anywhere in the world. This is the first thing you will here when you reach the gates of the new Suwanabhumi Airport in Thailand It only means one thing "Welcome" If you're coming to Thailand for the first time here are some ways to help you go around the city. 1. Taxi - from the airport this is the quickest way to your hotel ( sorry but the sky train is not yet finished comeback another 2 years) things to know: a. you will have to pay airport fee Baht 50.00. b. you will pay for any toll fee when you use the express way Baht 30.00-40.00 depending on the route you take. c. the flag down rate is Baht 30.00 d. make sure taxi driver speaks English and he know where you are going you can asked help from the taxi desk in the airport. 2. Tourist police - if you need any help they are everywhere. I forgot their number ( please post if you have information MJ ) 3. THERE ARE FREE MAP OF BANGKOK IN THE AIRPORT - make sure to get one before you leave the airport it's in English it helps. 4. Enjoy and submerge your self with all the sight and sound of Thailand..... If you have any question please post and we will try give you all the information to help you enjoy your stay in Thailand.

The most convenient mode of transportation is taking the train... They have 2... BTS (Sukhumvit Line and ************ Line)... The other one is the MRT... Although sometimes, it is cheaper to take the taxi if you are traveling with companions... Beware of "tuk-tuks" or "samlors"... They are like tricycle drivers in the Philippines... Magulang yan specially if you are a foreigner... Just take a cab instead of these vehicles... It is even cheaper plus air con pa!

FOR THOSE WHO ARE PLANNING TO VISIT THAILAND, THESE BASIC THAI WORDS AND SENTENCES MAY HELP YOU:
If you are a man, always add the word "KAP" at the end to be polite. If you are a woman, say "KA" Sawatdee Kap!--->> Greet this way if you are a man Sawatdee Ka!---> Greet this way of you are a woman I- Pom(male) Chan(female) You- Kon I love you!-- Pom rak kon!
How are you?- Sabai dee mai kap/ka I'm fine- Sabai dee kap/ka What is your name?- Kon chu arai kap/ka Where?- ti nai station- satanee bus- rot but Where is the bus station? - Satanee rot but yu ti nai kap/ka stop here- yut ni kap/ka how much?- taw rai kap/ka or kee baht ka/kap
See you next time guys for more Thai lessons. Mag-aaral muna ako para may maituro pa... How about the others??? CHUAY DUAY!

Most important phrase to learn by heart if you come to Thailand to shop: "Lot dai mai kha/khap?". That, of course only means one thing - "Can you give me a discount?" And if you haggle, start from 50% discount! I used to be appalled by the idea (don't want sellers to think we Pinoys are so cheap!), but you know what, it has worked many times!!! So, try it, and give us feedback. We most certainly want to know if it still holds magic or not!!!

The wai. I was twice flagged down by traffic cops once in Bangyai highway near the Carrefourre for not wearing a helmet and once in Mukdahan for a routine driver's license check. Each time, i was able to charm my way by greeting these cops in a proper wai and apologizing in Thai, the best I could..they were so amused to discover that i'm not Thai hahaha...they let me go. The wai is done by pressing the hands together in a prayer-like manner, with a slight bow of the head. The higher the hands are held, the more respect the giver of the wai is showing. It is a common way of greeting, thanking and apologizing. Never wai to persons younger than you, let them give you the wai greeting first. vice-versa. back to my story, i said something like this to the cop: "Pom kohtot krap, pom young mai mi bat kap rot. Pom kon tang chart jak Filipin krap." pom - I am (for males), chan (for females) kohtot - sorry krap - sir young - not yet mai - no, don't mi - have bat - card kap rot -drive a car kon - people tang chart - foreigner jak - from The language structure is totally different from English, if you translate word per word in a sentence, barok ang kalalabasan...but it's a complete sentence. later teerak (my love)..
