English pronunciation and accent....

What's wrong with the Pinoy accent, may I ask 

For me, there is NOTHING wrong with the Filipino accent, but with pronunciation...in the world of foreign languages, accents don't matter....

What's important is, that you are understood, because the main purpose of language learning is communication, not aesthetics.

For pinoys, we do need to get better at pronouncing words, learning idioms, slangs, coz they will make us better communicators.

But one thing we don't have to strive for, is to sound like an American, a Brit or an Aussie... because we aren't from those countries.

For me po dunno why pero nagsabay ang paguunawa ko sa English with American accent. I realize that this isn't a matter of it being the right or wrong thing. or of following proper techniques. But somewhere down the road I was told that this was the thing to do and I assumed everyone learned it this way. So, inquiring minds need to know. How does one learn English whilst delineating from accent. You know what I'm talking about?
Ex.
"Have you seen her?" = American: tone goes up at end of sentence; Tagalog or Filipino tone goes down at the end
"Do you have a map?" = American accent: "map" is literally "mayep" or "mayup", extended ang "a"; Tagalog or Filipino: the "a" in "map" sound like the "a" in "arm". I love that French, German, and Spanish people don't give a rat's derrier how they pronounce English. It sounds endearing to others.

my stand on this is we should learn.

lets compare to Thai language. we have to learn how they say the words. bcause its how they say it..

same with english, thts how the english says it so we should say it the same way.

but of course at the end of the day, because we werent born with those language, our goal is to do it in the matter that we can be understand by the others.

we cannot adopt it 100% but instinct tells us there are ways.

the question abt if we should change our pronounciation, not necessary. but if you can why not.

That's true about those people who think negative to those who have or trying to speak with an American accent.... SOmetimes, I cannot blame them because most of the English teachers in the Philippines don't have the accent, and they don't try to learn it...

My point is really simple. We have our own accent. How about if this person who can't pronounce the English word correctly earns higher than this person who can pronounce the word perfectly? What will you say about that?

Some filipinos like to put their fellow countrymen down because they are like them.

Whats new. Just try to mix the Malay, Spanish, Japanese, American and Chinese culture. You can see the result within us.

we may not sound like those NES, but we can improve the way we speak, learn and practise... inggit lang nila kasi tayo marunong tayong mag english, filipino, thai at local dialects.
