Our heroes, especially Gat. J. Rizal and Bonifacio (and the KKK),  used to correspond with each other in our own Pinoy writing, the Spaniards strongly discouraged it, and were successful in getting rid of it.  It has long been forgotten.

So, let's re-learn it!

Ang Alibata.

Keyser, thanks for briging this up. If you notice, my watermark in my Jose Santiago Tan photos are my initials in Alibata as introduced to me by Flexis friend Dagat.

Good to hear another Pinoy interested in our ancient alphabets Wink

Why not? We need to have something that would help affirm our identity as Filipinos. Though others might not find any application for it, I would still prefer to have a language that's like this. And if given a chance someday, if they wish to learn it, I would allow my kids to study Alibata.

Likewise MJ! Wink  it's good that other Pinoys are interested in our long-forgotten writing system.

While I was studying how to read and write the Thai scripts, my wife once asked me if I could also teach her Filipino writing, I proudly replied that we use the English alphabets.  She then gave me a puzzled look and replied "it's farang writing, not yours!"  It was like a knock on the head, she was right, and here I am trying to learn yet another foreign writing system.  So that got me really curious.  Then by coincidence, being an avid contact sports enthusiast that I am, I saw Brandon Vera on cable tv, a popular MMA fighter proudly waving a Philippine flag with stange symbols tattooed on his back, when interviewed he said that the symbols on his back were not Thai buddhist mantra like Angelina Jolie's, but is a prayer written in ancient Filipino scripts - the Alibata!  That got me really excited.

I share your sentiments MJ.

I hope this will be taught in schools, someday.
