a friend of mine, stayed at Diamond City Hotel, Ratchatewi BTS...just go straight ASIA HOTEL, 1,200 overnight, buffet breakfast for two.... ok din naman ung ambiance and food. check its website.

and another friend stayed also at Florida Hotel, located at Phayathai BTS Station, 800-1000 overnight with breakfast for two....

kung for sleep, bath and breakfast ok na rin 'to, safe naman, beside siguro naman during day time eh touring kayo...

For anyone wanting great ideas on hotels, hostels, and BKK locations, use this link:

http://www.bangkok-city.com/map/index_flash.htm

This has been an invaluable tool for me. You can search by area or by hotel. When you click on a hotel link, you will immediately get info on rates per season, pictures of the hotel and rooms, customer reviews, online booking and payment, and sometimes detailed maps. Works like Google Earth, only it uses a cartographic map rather than aerial/satellite images. Online booking is c/o Sawadee.com. I'm not endorsing their service. In fact I'm not impressed with it, but it will do the job for those who have never been to BKK or who need more info.

Here's the link for the Chiang Mai area:

Same story as above.

Good luck in your search!

i totally recommend: Ibis Siam Hotel is located in 97 Rajaprarop Road Makkasan which is just a bus away from Pratunam area and mall district.
