Author Peejay Today I say my last goodbye, And open up the well That had filled itself with tears inside But could not be made to see The starry night sky That you once, in loving memory, described And the shooting star that winked alive The first moment you came by But disappeared a second After you turned away One last time That one last night. I held you in my arms and found How hard it was not to cry As you handed me back the heart I had handed you that time You smiled up at the stars outside. Perhaps I should have seen the signs That true love, as precious as the angel I had been gifted from above, Would only be with me a while As Heaven only gifts mortals with A bit of eternity''s happiness A touch of destiny''s wish And only the barest hint Of true love''s special kiss As light a breath on mine own lips As soft as my own angel''s fingertips Now gently away from what once was my hand To gently wave goodbye To what once was my life. And now fate''s fisherman, once adrift at sea Comes back to shore, searching for The soul that Paradise had lent to me And the passion that had burnt itself raw As it burned inside of what once was me. Now I find that you and I Apart by more than oceans Made separate by choices Neither pleasant nor desired Still look into each other''s eyes Quiet, standing each alone on another shore Blown softly back by what choice''s call We answered to that last, dark night. And in a moment of lonely light You and I stretch out fingertips Together, in rhyme, one last stolen time Towards each other and then Slowly fold our fingers, inward to closing hands And, reluctantly... close our eyes. |
